July 27 (Friday) - Moonlight Panel - Jason Dohring .jpg)
There were other stars at the panel including ,Joel Silver, Alex O'Loughlin,(yummy goodness) Sophia Myles, Shannyn Sossamon, and Brian White, but when Jason Dohring walked in the crowd came alive. It was just short of a standing ovation. Jason looked around a bit and his eyes lit upon me in the front row. He smiled, and he mouthed the words "Hi Monique!". I was sure I was just seeing what I wanted to, but the next day some of my friends from the convention said they were there and they saw it too. In fact, that is how they knew I was there. So they showed a couple of clips from Moonlight, and if you have watched Joss Whedon's Angel, you are bound to find similarities, but there's enough there to make it distinct as well. I think I am going to like it. A couple times during the panel Jason and my eyes met, and he winked at me....then it was time for questions. I asked Jason "The character you play is supposed to be an exceedingly old vampire. How as such a young man yourself did you prepare for such a role?" He answered that he was just going to trust in the writers for that. When the panel was over, and the security guys were pushing him towards the door, Jason reached out and grabbed my hand. He told me that it had meant so much to him that I was there in the front row, and that my presence had calmed him. He said he wanted to talk but they wouldn't let him. (They being the security guys), and they were in fact gently pushing him out the door as he said this. I asked him if he was going to be around for signing or anything later, and he had been pushed all the way out the door by now, so he shoved his head back in and asked me what I had said. I asked again, if he was going to be at a signing, and he sadly shook his head as he disappeared behind the door. About this time my friend, Heather, nudged me in the ribs and said "You should have given him your number, or arranged a meeting place." Yeah. She's good with the hindsight.
I was fortunate enough to be able to say hi and grab a quick pic with the ever handsome Alex on his way out, I loved the glasses :)
A few weeks after I got back I recieved a letter from Jason in response to one I had sent with a friend earlier in the year to a convention he was at!
This is one of my most prized memorablilia. It shows what a class act Jason really is. I sooo hope he goes big places in the world.
