Asylum 07 by Rogue Events

Okay So I've been working on this since the convention but its taken me a while!! I thought I would share my experience with you all about what went on and what was said in the coffee bar with our lovely Jensen Ackles.

We were all sitting around, sipping our coffees, chatting among ourselves. The door was already open and a figure walked in - at first I thought it was another attendee but when I glanced up it was Jensen Ackles! He walked right in with ease (although he must have been more nervous than us!)
Straight away he said "Hey guys, how are ya all?" and he pulled a chair, that was over on the far wall, and popped it down in front of uswith maybe a few feet difference. He went and grabbed a coffee and asked if we all had one.
As he sat down he commented that it had been a long day and I commented to him that he did look tired.
When Jensen answered any question he answered by looking directly at you and still managing to involve the whole room. He made you feel like you were just chatting in a cafe somewhere.
He went on to explain that around three weeks ago he was in Tokyo for a week. Just as he got used to the time difference he flew back to the US. He then had got himself back to a sleep pattern and he had to fly here. He was asked if he had took in any sight seeing but he hadn't. He said when him and Jared had come over last year they did all the tourist thing, he just took the time to relax a little before the Con.
This led to the obvious, - JARED! He explained he was doing a film and bummed he couldn't make it. When asked how he felt not being here with Jared, he admitted it was a little strange. In the past he and Jared have always done all these things together. And Jared was the excitable and energetic one, he can ramble on forever, leave him (jensen) to be able to just sit back and let him carry on. Then he made a comment I loved (simply coz I love Top Gun!) he said it was like being without his wingman! awwwwww 
He was then asked THE question - Had he heard about Season 3 yet??? He explained that he hadn't and had been checking that day if anyone had heard. He was hoping to hear by tomorrow (monday) as he too was getting worried now. He said that he was pretty confident but admitted that as time has gone on its hard not to get a little nervous.
He was clued up on all the ratings etc (more so than me anyway!!!) He admitted that the time slot was tough and thought that most of the audience came from Smallville. This led to a quick disscussion on Grey's Anatomy and JDM. He laugh, coz that day he'd seen a T-shirt saying 'stop killing off JDM'.
But back to the show he said that, what all us UK fans loved, he was aware, as was the studio, how well the show was doing internationally. Jensen said that we were making a difference to the studio and it would go in the shows favour, even though the Network only takes a domestic view point. He spoke to Bob Singer and Eric Kripke about it and said Eric had claimed that he would put his life on the fact that they would be picked up for season 3.
He admiration and love for Bob, Kym and Eric shone through, through the whole of the coffee bar.
Bringing Eric into the discussion, Jensen was asked if he'd ever suggested a storyline of his own to the writers or something he'd like to see happen in an episode. He said that to be honest, he didn't have time to think about that stuff. What with doing 15 hours a day shooting and then him and Jared trt and grab at least 7 hours kip. They try and get to the gym in the morning and then as soon as their in the car, they are learning lines. Although techinally the Dean eating saga came from him!
He said in Faith, the one where they dress up as priests (which led to me correcting him saying it was Nightmare, and the others looked at me like I was mad!! but Jensen got a laugh out of it!) Anyway he said they were just meant to sit down and talk to the mom but he saw the mini sausages on the table and asked the prop lady if they were edible ( some things they spray to make them look fresh) but these were, so when the cameras started rolling he started popping them into his mouth. Eric loved it so much, it became a new Dean characteristic and the rest is history. Which Jensen hated coz he doesn't eat much and he said that this was Jared - he eats all the time and just how Dean does!!!
This led to a discussion on how big Jared is. Jensen said that although he is 6'1'' Jared makes him look short. At 6'4' and 220lbs he's a big lad! Jensen joked he had to stand on a box to slap him! and because sometimes Jensen is self concious about looking short he demonstarted how jared stands with his legs apart during interviews so they look the same height!!! ---awwww the sweety!!!
The talk of food prompted me to ask what he was eating in Tall Tales. He laughed and said the most disgusting chilli fries. The scene was long and he had to keep eating them for 4 hours, which is why there was an empty tray on the bed!
When asked if he'd like Dean in RL, Jensen replied " oh yeah he's a prick!". I nearly fell off my seat!!! Which Jensen smiled at and said that in fairness he would probably get on with him coz he has mates that are exactly like Dean. He, however isn't, he used the prison eppy as an example. He said when Dean squared up to the other inmate that was not like him, he have been like Sam saying " im sorry, im so so sorry"! hee hee
As he brought up FPB, I asked about the uniforms and why his looked tight and Jareds looked big. This got a giggle from him and he said it was uncomfortable to wear. They were real prison uniforms and they eppy was shot at Riverview Hospital, which was an old mental institution. They also filmed Asylum there. It's a big building and easy to get lost in, which one day Jensen did! He took a wrong turn and was in a really long corridor. He said it was like something out of The Shinning (which I giggled about and he said so your a fan too) He had to stand there shouting help until someone came and found him!!
While we were on the subject of films, I asked him about the Die Hard quote (I had too!!!!!) He said that Kym Manners put that in, which he loved. He said that although he was a big Die Hard fan, he had to watch it a few times to get it just right. This led us to a little Die Hard discussion. He asked me if I thought he'd pulled it off okay and I was like YEAH!!! and I told him that I'd fell off the settee at home and he said I was the first person to comment on it! I love him more for this!! hee hee
Some one then jumped in and asked about the weather conditions on set. He explained how cold it was and we see him and Jared in just shirts but behind the camera the whole crew has on these big bulky coats!! He said that him and Jared were use to it now but feel sorry for the guests, especially the girls as they are always made to wear skimmpy dresses!
We talked about the salting and burning the bones and he said how there was a gas pipe underneath which someone pushed which gives the effect of it whoosing up, he joked that him and Jared had lost a few eyebrows as a result! He then asked if we had noticed that the graves were all perfect rectangles. He said he'd had a problem with this for ages and complained to the powers that be but they were still doing it. There is two graves, one half way dug and one completely dug that they use. He wants them to look more realistic.
One lady asked how it felt filming Episode 20, meeting his mom again and how emotional it was for us as fans to watch. We talked about the mowing of the lawn and him waving to the neighbour and sitting on the step drinking a beer. Jensen admitted that this was the hardest episode he'd ever done on the show, he been completely taken out of his comfort zone and the character he'd created in Dean and his relationship to other characters. This was also Eric's directional debut, which Jensen also found hard coz most guest directors leave him and Jared to it coz they know the characters better but as Eric had created Dean this was harder. Jensen said it made him more nervous Eric was directing and he was out of his comfort zone to boot. He wanted to make Eric proud. Eric was very hands on saying things like "do this and do that, say this line like this" etc. Jensen said he took it coz it was Eric but if a guest director had tried it he'd have been like "Piss Off Dude!"
He said later on when Eric was going on him and Jared had a passing look and he (Jensen) had sighed and shook his head.
He said that Jared had also found the episode hard, jared had said later that he ever realised how easy it was to work with someone until you have to play against everything they'd built on. They were so used to have a certain close relationship and Jared had to try and ignore all this - he found the pulling away from Deans touch really hard to remember to do.
Jensen said that all though it was hard, he thought it came out great and glad that the fans saw it how it was meant to be. We said we were glad you finally saw Dean happy.
He was then asked that when the show came to an end would he like to see Dean happy and settled or to die in a blazy of glory. I got everyones attention when I screamed "no!"!!! Jensen laughed and said that he wouldn't want that either. He wanted the audience left with a feeling of wanting more and was glad I felt the same. He then said that he wanted to do a lot more seasons before it ever came down to deciding how it will end!! yay!!!!
Jensen started talking about locations that they film on and how the stunt co-ordinators have to clear away all the rocks and debris etc before each shoot. One of the worst and most dangerous locations they'd shooted on was an area in Vancouver. Its known for really bad drug addiction but the area is great location for shooting and the architecture is amazing. The crew had to go in and hose down the whole area before each shoot coz there was needles everywhere. Jensen recalled one time where he was sitting on a step and looked down and there was a needle right by his foot. He said he was like " Dude! Dude! Down here!" and a crew member had to come and get it.
The Impala was brought up (obviously!!) and he was asked about the end scene in ELAC. He said he wasn't too bothered about hitting that one coz it wasn't his one! But one crew member gave him this little crowbar and he asked for a bigger one! He knew it was a heavy scene for Dean and gave it his all, and at one point the crowbar slipped from his hand and he just kept going with his fists! He stopped and saw all his knuckles were bloody and thought "yeah that was a good idea!". I asked why it wasn't kept in coz that sounded better, he agreed and was suprised they didn't. He thought the only reason why they didn't was coz it was too long.
Then came a pause so I asked the one question I've wanted to ask for ages!!! Did he slip in Haunted when Gordon was chasing them at the end or was it on purpose? He laughed saying that he did slip and they thought it looked great and kept it in. Which led me to ask about his slip up in Providance, where he says Jared instead of Sam.
Jensen was like " I Know!!!! I can't believe I did that! What's worse is no one saw it" He went on to say that him and jared were watching it as it aired in there trailer and he asked Jared if he heard right. Jared insisted that he didn't say it. But it bugged him until he got the DVD's, he checked straight away and thought "Damn I did!" He said I was the first person to mention it and thought he may have got away with it. I replied saying that others had but were probably to polite to say anything. He laughed saying he'd wait ages for someone to ask and glad I had.
He was then asked who picked the music on the show. He said it was usually Bob Singer but sometimes Eric and Kym have some input. He went on to say his favourite was Renegade. He loved how that turned out. Some one then mentioned Silent Lucidity in Heart, how that enhanced that scene at the end. He nodded (I got the impression he hadn't seen it! hee hee)
Which led me to ask how hard it was to get just that one single tear and if they had meant it to be just the one? With that he told us a very heart breaking story, one I'll remember forever and the way he looked while saying it....
