• ELIZA DUSHKU
  • NEC, BIRMINGHAM - SIGNING
  • 18th APRIL 2004

The first I was ever to meet and it was my idol...

This was as much of a "fall into the lap" thing anyone can ever get. At least anyone like me. I was going to the uk, I had ordered convention tickets June the year before, I ordered my plane tickets in January. Then a week or two before my departure to my first ever trip to the uk, someone posted about Eliza Dushku doing a signing in Birmingham, only days after I was to land in London. I had no clue how far it was going to Birmingham, what it would cost or anything, to be honest I frankly didn't care, cause this was a once in a lifetime experience for me. I was going to give my ALL to get there. Luckily a friend of mine agreed to go with me. And he had been to the NEC before.

Guro's drawing of Eliza Dushku To be completely honest this seemed just be too good to be true, I was so thinking it was going to be a hoax or something, cause I couldn't be so lucky. But ever since hearing she was going to be there, I planned to put together a drawing, to show her how much I appriciate her work and what she means to me.

So I left London at 8 in the morning that Sunday, travelled by bus and arrived at the NEC finally around 1.30 that afternoon. Once getting to the right hall I hurried to find out where she was sitting.

She was on a break then and a guy told us there were no more autograph tickets and I was on the verge of tears, not on the verge, tears were starting to appear in my eyes. The guy I went with told me that we Eliza Dushkucould go around the shops and then return later on to find out if there was any tickets left. After a while I hurried back and there she sat, looking absolutely stunning. People around me were taking pictures and having such a great view I took out mine and the people started to arrange a photo queue so that as many people as possible could get great photos. I hurried to queue up, so I got pretty far to the front of the line. I was about 3 meters from her and got two great snaps of her and then I had to leave the queue so that someone else could get photos as well.

I went to the side and got out my drawing, I had to make sure someone could take it to her as I probably wouldn't get to, because I had realized that there probably never would be sold any more autograph tickets. So I went up to the woman managing the queue:

ME: "Excuse me, I know that I probably aren't allowed to give it to her myself, but I made her this drawing and I was wondering if you could make sure she gets it?"

WOMAN:"Sure I'll make sure she gets it."

The woman turned to talk to the man managing the queue on the other side of the barrier, he said something back and the woman turned back to me:

WOMAN:"Yes you can give it to her."

My heart immediatly went up my throat, butterflies started flapping around in my stomach and I was shaking all over. They took me in front of the photo queue, made me wait there until she had finished signing the photo she was signing at the moment, then the man leaned over to her and said.

MAN:"This girl wants to give you something"

Eliza Dushku signingAnd then she turned to me. I was now more nervous than I had been before in my entire life. My hand shaking, I mutley reached out the drawing to her. She looked at it, smiled to me.

ELIZA DUSHKU:"Aw, this is nice. Thank you. Do you have anything you'd like me to sign?"

    ME:"I... I don't have an autograph ticket..."

    ELIZA DUSHKU:"That's allright..."

ME:"...but I do have my Sunnydale yearbook."

    ELIZA DUSHKU:"What's that?"

I hurried to take the book out of my backpack and trying franticly to find the picture of her in it, something I had very difficulties to do with the rushing, with the shaking and everyrhing, but I managed to get it right and turned it to her.

    ELIZA DUSHKU:"What's your name?"

    ME:"Guro. G-U-R-O."

And she wrote: "To Guro W/[heart], Eliza Dushku. thanks!" Sunnydale Yearbook Pic of Eliza Dushku

The rest was kinda a blur, I think I muttered thanks and smile and inside I was about to burst, when I left and found my friend again I was litterally bouncing off the walls and no matter the energy I used that day I couldn't become tired at all. I was too excited!
