COMIC CON 08 REPORT
Thurs morning began the first of 3 of waking up at 3 am to get to the con hall by 5 (we had a 40 min drive) to get a parking spot underneath the convention center. Each morning we would make new friends and meet up with old ones as us crazies would wait from 5-8 just to get into the building to then wait til 9-10 for panels, signings, or the exhibit hall. If there is a panel you want to see you have to get there first thing in the morning and then camp out all day til your panel if you want the front row, but it's definately worth it! My two younger sons went to daycare (I am so grateful
Michael, Heather, Angela, and about 2,000 others went to try and line up for Twilight wristbands for a signing later in the day, no winners in our group sadly :( but Heather and Mikey did make it into hall H close to the front for a fun filled day of previews including Twilight, Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, Keanu Reeves and more! Hubby went off to writing panels, where else LOL. I went with my friends Jim and Marco to the Masters of the Web panel in hopes of winning Next I grabbed my 9 year old out of daycare and we went over to the Greatest American Hero panel, they are introducing a new comic based on the old 80's show. My son has just gotten into the dvd's and even came up with his own red costume. When it was his turn to ask a question he asked William if the aliens had let him Now it was time to head over to room 6cdef to await the True Blood and especially Dexter panels that were to be later in the afternoon. I managed to get in the front row YAY and then got to see a panel on a Nazi Next up was a preview of Street Fighter IV all in Japanese WHOHOO, the kids in the audience seemed to enjoy it. The True Blood panel was next, It's HBO's new Vampire series coming this fall. It looks very interesting and it stars Anna Paquin, who played Rogue on Xmen, she's a cutie blond. She sat right in front of us and was just so expressive and the whole cast looked like they all had so much fun together, I will definately check this out when it goes to DVD or Download. Now it is time for the panel we have all been waiting for DEXTER! Michael C Hall and Julie Benz come in and sit down together and entertain us for the next hour with great stuff like Julie elaborating on how her character might react if she found out about Dexter’s extracurricular activities, “I honestly believe that in a successful relationship every man needs a hobby. Some men play golf.” Julie Benz about Rita, “I had played all these horrible people for so long, well they weren’t even people, it was really just a great gift to play this real woman suffering with real issues. The growth that you see between season one, two and dare I say season three is because of Rita’s relationship with Dexter. He gives her the confidence to feel better about herself, to feel secure and to embrace all these things that had been beaten out of her for so long. On the differences between Darla and Rita, “They’re kind of similar but on the opposite ends of the spectrum. They’ve both been very damaged by men in their lives yet one turned right and one turned left. Darla became very strong and did horrible evil things while Rita kinda fell apart. But at their core they are kinda similar. Added Kristin, “Darla and Deter would be a pretty hot couple, not to mention have slightly more in common.” and this great trailer for season 3
First panel of the morning was Stargate Sg1 this was Richard Dean Anderson's first con appearance ever he tells us all in the audience. The whole panel is hilarious, they all play off one another and it all culminates with Richard talking about his favorite time filming in antartica and how everything freezes including your poop! Next up Stargate Alantis and the ever lovely Jewel Staite and Bob Picardo and yummy Joe Flanigan. Bob keeps the crowd and Jewel and Joe laughing with his jokes but ever kept straight face, I don't know how he does it. then some guys come out to explain about a stargate game of some kind, everyone is shifting places and just getting more and more excited for the Doctor Horrible Panel. Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog has only been avaliable for a little over a week and yet you look around the ballroom and there are so many people wearing captain Hammer and DR Horrible shirts and in each face you see the recognition that they get it too, and that altohough Joss Whedon's creations are funny and entertaining they are soooooo much more, the deeper you look the more stuff you can find. Finally Joss comes out and introduces everybody else Felicia Day (Penny), Simon Helberg (Moist), Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer) and Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible), and his co-writers Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon and Zack Whedon, what a talented family and Maurissa was just so cute!
After Nathan Fillion spouted bravado the entire panel, Harris observed, "You're still Captain Hammer.""You thought that was acting?" Whedon asked."It's actually shaped like a little hammer," Fillion said, causing Harris to shake his head. "I mean, little for a hammer. I showed Joss one time, and he just won't shut up about it.""That was a great day," Whedon played along. "The day you got the part of Mal."
The whole panel was hilarious, my 9 year old had run to the microphone line as soon as the panel had started and was excited to ask his question It took him a little bit of time to get it out, the microphone changing his voice kind of threw him, but when he asked who had created the shoulder dance from the Laundromat song, Neil immediately knew what he was talking about and laughed how Ronan had named it "the shoulder dance" He and Joss said that neil had come up with all these MTV cribs moves like the shoulder dance and the magic fingers and liked to get al After the panel we ran downstairs to see if we had won one of the raffle tickets for the Doctor Horrible signing and of course our lucky boy Ronan's ticket had won, so I took he and his little brother Riley through the line at the Dark Horse Booth. Nathan was first and was so kind he asked each of the boys Meanwhile Mikey, my 17 yr old was off through the Bones line at the Fox booth, sadly it was at the same time, but Ronan and I had met david at the Bones event at Paley earlier this year so it was only fair Mikey got to now. There was David Boreanaz,(Booth) Tamara Taylor (Cam), John Francis Daley (Dr. Sweets) and Michaela Conlin that were signing, unfortunately fox was not allowing pics at that time but Mikey got a cool poster and got to tell them hello. Next was the 24 and Prison Break signings at the Fox booth, I was not lucky enough to snag a 24 auto ticket( And then Sarah and Dominic came in, sadly no Wentworth Miller, I don not think he likes the crowds and the uber fans he seems to generate. Dominic looked HOT! I was happy to see Sarah with her head and it is a fantastic thing she is coming back to Prison Break, it's not the same without her. Immediately after this signing my hubby ran over and said Jeffery Dean Morgan is here hurry!!!!!! I ran over to this little out of way booth and they had long since sold out of the tickets that came with a Watchmen shirt but the guy pssst me over and he had one hidden under the counter so I got in the very tail end of the line and was so excited, when I got up there they were just having JDM, Carla and Jackie sign and pass the poster over to the stairs but JDM got talking to me about Supernatural and he saw the camera in my hand and smiled and I whispered please so he called me over and we got a quick pic, Definately the Highlight of the whole con!!!!!!! We walked upstairs after the Watchmen signing, but the room for Doctor Horrible's Sing Along was filled to capacity, WHAT A SHOCKER! I do not think Comic Con will ever give Joss the Props he deserves and schedule his things in big enough rooms. We headed back to Kaz's for dinner and sleep. Next came the 1,000 people all trying to get in the Chuck signing, by the time WB opened it up there was all sorts of pushing and stepping on toes and lot's of owies for me, but I did get in and on the other side of the WB booth hubby got in line for the Milo line so I could perhaps have the chance to see both. All the Chuck people were so Jovial, I love Adam Baldwin from his Angel/Firefly days and he plays such a funny part on Chuck. Sarah had not been at the Paley Fest event so it was great to meet her, and I let Josh know how much we had all appreciated him passing our things along to Zach to get signed there. Zach Levi's beard is gone, much to his dismay LOL, he had the other writer next to him snag a pic of the two of us and he basically climbed out onto the signing table IT WAS FANTASTIC! What a very cool bunch of people that whole cast is!
Wow what a morning, barely have any time to go to the bathroom or grab something to eat. It is soooo worth it though Saturdays are the best at Comic Con! So next we have Dollhouse signing at the Fox booth or The Underworld 3 signing we won tickets for earlier in the day. Mikey was first in line for the Dollhouse signing when a girl came up Mikey and I just made it back to the Dollhouse signing in time and someone else did not want their ticket so Mikey bought it for $50 and got to go through anyway. Eliza is sooooooo pretty, I loved her dress and it was fun meeting Tamoh in person I have been a big fan of his part Helio over on Battlestar Galactica. Just as I was going up for my auto Joss's brother and soon to be sis in law came up to talk to him and they were talking about meeting for dinner and it was so cute as Joss talked to them about when they were meeting and just as he was about to blurt out the place he looks up realizes where he is and that there are fans all around him and in true Joss Whedon fashion he smiles and says, "At the hotel we are staying at" I I almost forgot, while in line for the Terminator movie signing a really nice couple had an extra fast pass to go meet Jamie Bamber( Apollo) from Battlestar Galactica, so I snuck out of line and ran over to meet him and then got back before anyone suspected a thing :) He is a hottie even with his beard :) Our final signing of the night was for JJ Abrams new series Fringe starring Josh Jackson, Pacey from back in Dawson Creek Days. They just had the posters signed and would hand them out quickly as we walked through but I was able to tell Josh how excited I am he will be in a weekly show again. They were showing the pilot episode all weekend but I just did not have the time to go watch it, it sounds like a great premise though, so I will be sure to check it out this fall. Now it was time to eat and drop the family back off at Kazumi's so I could go meet Marco and Jimmy at The Hard Rock for the awesome party!
We were not suppose to take pics at the party unless we were press, but it was an interesting experience to say the least. Jason Statham showed up the last hour or so, we also saw Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker from Sarah Connor Chronicles and Tony Todd from Candyman, Josh Jackson came in towards the end, and many many more people who looked famous but of course for the life of you you cannot think of their names. There were gogo girl dancers who danced spectacular btw, and there were also girls wearing little undies and just tape on their nipples apparently its a part of Crank2, of which they kept showing the trailer for. All you action junkies are gonna love it. It was a fun party, much out of my experience, many many drunk and ummmm otherwise wasted people there, so many people kept dropping their glass glasses that there was glass all over, they were going to have a heck of a time cleaning up. I did run into Camden Toy on my way into the party he was eating at a nearby resturant, he is by far one of the nicest and most friendly stars I have ever met, at any convention I have ever seen him at he goes out of his way to help each and every body have a fantastic time he is very cool! Sunday I went off to a healers workshop and cuddle party in Pacific Beach but the boys and Nate walked the floor and got many pics and cheap items to bring back with them.
I need to add to that Kazumi and Geoff went through another signing where Nathan Fillion was a part of and as she was going through he looked up from signing and said, "Hey I know you, Kaz, Kaz...... Kazumi!" and she was just so thrilled that not only had he remembered her but he had also remembered her name. Nathan is seriously such a #1 class act guy! Tuesday it was off for home. I can't wait til next year, It is going to be the 40th anniversary of Comic Con! MANY MORE PICS Here |
